At Howardian we use a whole school approach and targeted interventions to support pupil wellbeing. These interventions are coordinated by Miss Britton. If you have any questions about wellbeing support, please get in touch with the school.
We currently provide Thrive, ELSA and Wellbeing Support Groups at Howardian. Please find further information below.

Our Wellbeing Support Groups are used to support pupils' self-esteem and confidence. They include activities that promote social skills, turn taking and improving peer interactions. The aim of these groups is to help create a sense of connection and belonging. These groups are led by Teaching Assistants across the school.
Thrive equips schools with the tools to build pupils' social and emotional skills. By embedding social and emotional learning across the school, Thrive equips staff to better understand and respond to pupils' needs. Using Thrive-Online, educators assess and track emotional development and behaviour in schools, creating personalised action plans that support each pupil. This proactive, whole school approach to mental health reduces barriers to learning, and cultivates a positive environment where pupils feel safe, engaged, and ready to achieve their full potential.
A whole school approach is key to fostering an environment where every pupil’s mental health and wellbeing are prioritised. By embedding emotional wellbeing into all aspects of school life, we create a foundation that enhances behaviour, attendance, and overall learning outcomes.
Thrive Licensed Practitioners are able to support and actively develop the wellbeing and resilience of the children and young people they work with.
An ELSA in a school is an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant. They will have completed a recognised training course aimed at working with children to support their social and emotional needs. ELSAs are trained and regularly supervised by Educational Psychologists.
